most of the chatter that i'm hearing out of washington is really focusing more on reducing the corporate tax rates. david, as you pointed out, the president is supporting that idea. look, i only hear one sector really complaining right now about this and that's the energy sector. they're not worrying about their taxes going up. they're worrying about their subsidies being cut. they're using it as a piece of blackmail to say may, if you cut our subsidy, we're going to move jobs. you know what? enough already. you can afford to do -- >> there were other companies. the problem is there are a lot of other companies worried about this. one of which is apple which has about $120 billion, about half of that money is overseas where it's not doing us any good. >> david, i think you just hit the nail on the head. that's the biggest problem is the repatriation of earnings of u.s. subsidiaries overseas. they're keeping that cash there because we're one of the very few countries that does double taxation of profits. first they get taxed overseas and then we tax them again when they get here. most cou

jimmy p., i love this new washington picture. and i don't want to be pessimistic. i want to be optimistic. maybe they can make a deal. but here's what i worry about, jimmy. here's what i fear. the republicans are conceding that they'll give a revenue -- a tax revenue portion by limiting deductions. but i don't see any spending cuts. the sequester has been called off. mr. boehner would like a down payment on entitlements. i don't see that happening. to me remember it used to be 3-1 or 4-1 spending cuts to revenue increases. right now it looks to me like it's 10-1. 10-0. $10 of revenue hikes and no spending cuts, jimmy pethokoukis. >> i think what we're going to get at the end of the day, you're going to get a lot of tax increases, and then you're going to get a lot of promises about caps and mechanisms. be careful of the word "process." there's going to be a process in place for looking at further spending cuts. or entitlement reform. but that's all going to be like tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, the 12th of never. what we're going to get right away are tax incre
